  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp red food coloring
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened (for glaze)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. Add the egg, egg yolk, softened butter, cocoa powder, red food coloring, and salt. Gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough until it is smooth, which takes about 8 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Filling and Baking
  1. Roll the dough into a rectangle. Spread the softened butter over the dough.
  2. Sprinkle the brown sugar, cocoa powder, and cinnamon evenly over the top.
  3. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it into 12 rolls.
  4. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover them, and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until they are golden and fluffy.
Glazing
  1. While the rolls are baking, whisk together the cream cheese glaze ingredients until creamy.
  2. Once the rolls are done, spread the glaze over the warm rolls.
  3. For an extra wow factor, sprinkle with red velvet crumbs on top.
