Method
Prepare the Puff Pastry
- Roll out the puff pastry and prick it with a fork.
- Bake it at 180°C for 15-20 minutes until it turns golden and crispy.
- Let it cool completely.
Prepare the Pastry Cream
- Heat the milk with the vanilla to infuse the flavor.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with sugar, then add the cornstarch.
- Gradually pour the hot milk over the egg mixture while whisking.
- Return the mixture to heat and stir until it thickens.
- Remove from heat, add the butter, mix well, and let it cool.
Assembly
- Cut the cooled puff pastries into regular rectangles.
- Start layering with one piece of pastry, spread on some pastry cream, add another pastry, repeat with more cream, and finish with the last pastry layer.
- Lightly press down to level everything.
Decoration
- Cover the top layer with white icing made from icing sugar and a little water.
- For a decorative touch, use chocolate or cocoa to draw lines on the icing and swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect.
- If desired, stick grilled slivered almonds on the sides for added crunch.
Notes
Serve chilled for about 2 hours before enjoying for best flavor. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to two days.
