  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk with yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and mix until you have a dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread softened butter on two-thirds of the dough.
  8. Fold the unbuttered third over the middle and then fold the other third over the top, making a three-layer dough.
  9. Roll it out again into a rectangle and repeat the folding process two more times.
  10. Once done, cover and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  11. Roll out the dough one last time into a large rectangle. Cut into triangles.
  12. Roll each triangle from the base to the tip to form a croissant shape.
  13. Place on a baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  14. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  15. Brush each croissant with beaten egg and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
